Searching Tips
At its simplest, a query can be just a word or a phrase. But with the tips on this page, you can expand the
focus of your query to give you more complete results.
These tips will get you started with basic query language and acquaint
you with the full power of ISYS®:web Search Software 8.
Look for words with the same prefix. For example, in your query form type sink*
to find documents that contain sink, sinks, sinking, etc.
Search with the keyword AND, for documents that MUST contain both words.
For example, army AND navy, will only return documents
that contain army and navy.
Search with the keyword NOT, for documents that contain one word, but not another.
For example, army NOT navy, will return documents
that contain army and no references to navy.
Search with the keyword OR, for documents that contain both or one of the two words.
For example, army OR navy, will return documents
that contain army, navy or both.
Search with the keyword FAR, for documents that contain a word that is not close
in proximity to another. For example, army FAR navy,
will return documents that contain army and navy, but
not the documents where army is close to navy.
Search with the keyword NEAR, for documents that contain a word that is close
in proximity to another. For example, army NEAR navy,
will return documents that contain army and navy,
however, the results are returned such that the documents with those words the closest
together will be ranked higher.
Search with the words/phrases in quotations(" ") for documents that contain an exact or similar word/phrase.
For example, "competitive
sourcing issues" will return documents that contain the phase
commercial services management issue and commercial services management issues or could return
documents that contain only part of the phrase.
